Bear breeding in Konopiště has a long tradition. The first bears were acquired in the middle of the 19th century by the Lobkowitz family and Archduke Franz Ferdinand d'Este continued the tradition.
At present, a rare species of Himalayan bear is kept in Konopiště. The moat is inhabited by one bear, Jiří.
